Steaks are expensive! There is a pretty easy way to save money when you're willing to put a little work in to it.
First, start off buying an Eye of Round. We recently got one that was on sale at a local grocery store- 50% off and it was a 2.5 lber. I think it ran me something like $9. (Be sure to check the clearance meat as well- I often see these marked way down, but they still look good- they are just coming up on their sell by date.)
Decide how big of a steak you want. Tim and I decided we wanted 1/2 lb steaks (before they were cooked).
Slap that meat down on a cutting board and lightly press the knife into the meat, making light lines every little bit. In our case, we made 4 lines, which showed where we wanted the 5 steaks cut. This will help you cut them in to more equal slabs.
Cut the meat!
We marinated two steaks for immediate use, then put the others in ziploc bags with their marinade and tossed them in the freezer. 5 steaks for around $1.80 each!
Pair with a nice side salad, baked potato or corn on the cob (or whatever you want) and you've got a $20 meal for pennies on the dollar. We spent right around $5 for our steak and baked potato meal.
